Tom - I am close to finishing the story about your Dad, and I am now looking at which photos to use. There was a photo of Joe with his last project, the restoration of the "Tomyann XIX"Dodge runabout, in a 2004 Unlimited NewsJournal article written by Steve Nelson that I would like to use. To do so, I have to have your permission, since Steve indicated I needed to have the owner's permission to use the picture with my story.
I have not received a response as yet from David Williams about the letter that you mentioned. I am hoping that he will be able to share it with me.
I am progressing on the article about your Dad, but wondered if you could fill in a few factual blanks for me. If my research is correct, your Mom's first name was Pat, but that is as much as I could find about their marriage. Beyond the names of you, your sister Ann, and brother John, there is no information about when you came joined the family. So, some questions:
What was his birthdate? Did he graduate from Lehman High School in Canton? Did he start the ice cream shop right after graduating from high school? When did your parents marry? When were you and your siblings born? Are you all still living? Your Dad sold the ice cream shop in 1948...did you have a chance to enjoy visiting the shop? Can you confirm that became involved in real estate after selling the ice cream business? Your Dad was announced as driver of Miss U.S. I prior to the 1958 President's Cup. When race day came, he had been replaced by Don Wilson without explanation. Do you have some insight as to why he was replaced?
