We're racing through history!

Art and Dorothy.

Dorothy Oberto passed away peacefully on April 1st, 2013 in Seattle. Throughout life she loved to bring people together and always found creative ways to do it. Whether it was a three day family reunion, weekend Seafair extravaganzas, '50's toga parties, or a simple cup of tea with friends; Dorothy always added a personal touch. For her, hosting fifty 7th graders for an overnight sleepover was never a problem. Organizing a rummage sale to fund school improvements in a small Mexico town? "No problem". She had a lifetime of volunteering in multiple communities, and supported numerous charities, arts, schools, and organizations.

Dorothy was also a self proclaimed underdog, who started life in the 1930's in a small Ohio town. As she would say, "life was hard back then, no fun", and ever since has inspired others (and even herself) to go that extra mile. She and Art made a great team in that regard, and it wasn't uncommon for them to lend some worldly advise, share their time and resources, or even fund a neighbor kid's tuition for school. Art and Dorothy's 58 years of teamwork was most prevalent in building the Oberto Sausage Company; an endeavor that began with living in a basement apartment adjacent to the sausage factory in Seattle.

Dorothy also had a love for travel that started in a motorhome with Art and the family and later spread worldwide. Her list of destinations were long and unique. She visited Cuba earlier this year and had plans to go to Mexico this spring. Her motto was always "life's an adventure", and she lived that fully from start to finish.

Dorothy has left us, but she left us with hope, inspiration, and a treasure chest of good stories to tell. A truly amazing woman.

Dorothy is survived by husband Arthur P. Oberto, four sisters, one brother, four children, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, in-laws, outlaws, and friends and family everywhere. There were so many that called her "mom".
