Oh, Boy, Oberto! and Miss Madison

First of all, a hearty "Well-Done" to (our own) Mike and Larry Hanson, their crew, and to Steve David for providing us with an exciting race victory this past weekend in Seattle.

I would also like to extend heartfelt congratulations to the people back in Madison Indiana for their efforts. The wonderful and much appreciated support from local provider and sponsor, Oberto, sometimes tends to overshadow the double name of this wonderful hydro. Understandably so. But make no mistake: she is also, the "Miss Madison" and her home port is in that midwest community.

So I hope the museum members back in Madison will understand that even if our local TV announcers refer to her as "The Oberto", those of us who love the sport fully understand and appreciate the involvement and efforts of the Madison community. She's your boat too and it is so great to share the victory.

First of all congratulations to all who keep Miss Madison/Oberto doing such a fine job. The people of Madison, IN can and should be very proud. I always enjoyed the races there. I go back to the "Real Thunder Boats" You have to see these races in person to fully understand how it gets in your blood. The people of Madison always made you feel welcome, the crowed was always very large, but pretty much well behaved. I don't think TV ever gave them much consideration. Wide world of sports always showed hilights inbetween some silly sport that had nothing to do with the U-boats. Miss Madison is still my link with the past, as she and Steve David or the only names I recognize. All my heroes both boat wise and people wise are gone from the sport. The sounds too are fading away. The turbine boats are cool looking, but maybe to fast for the hull design. I am so glad there is a movement to keep the memories alive through the rebuilding of the classics. I would love to take a ride in one of these boats. I have to mention the Sedam family, my condolences for your loss. They were always so nice talking to any one with questions and passing out pictures and the stickers and buttons. Who can forget Miss Kentuckyana Paver. If I close my eyes and think real hard I can still see the flying start with the Madison bridge as a backdrop. Thanks to all for your effort.
