Loved the Doug Ford lecture!

Picked up 2 books afterwards, "What Were They Thinking" and "Risk Takers" and I can't put 'em down. I'm half way through one already... great stuff!

Only 4 people? What's Up?

Have you read Doug's books?  Is there a lack-of- interest in Hydro history?

 Doug and Skip J. (Santa).

I hope to meet you both.... I'm flyin' in,

Steve

YES!!!

I'm trying to fly-in on Thursday and want to spend Friday and Saturday gathering more information on Shanty II at the Museum with all the great people there, and then, meet and listen to Doug Ford!!!

I can't wait!! (I'm not worthy... I'm not worthy...) Can we just cancel March so this can happen NOW???

Go Fast Guys,

My Dad raced Hydro's in the 60's. They weren't Thunderboats though I sure thought they were. He ran "D" class with a Looper outboard and until he attempted to fly the Hydro, not knowing how to land a 2 pointer on the sponsons it was the most exciting thing I've ever witnessed. Unfortunately,my Mom, after seeing the ding in his helmet caused by the throttle lock button, instituted a me or the boat edict. Sure wish I had that Looper as it was a real screaming, 4 cylinder, miracle at the time. I can't imagine what it's worth would be today especially to me though I don't think I've the nerve to drive a canvas decked, 14', 250 lbs. Hydro-plane. I remember the one time Dad raced in a salt water river and we pit crew, while elevating the rear of the boat were direct ground paths for the open, 40,000 volt ignition. Really made you anticipate engine start, hopefully on the first pull so you could drop that sucker as every pull zapped us idiots standing waist deep in salt water. Those were the days! We never had that problem in the usual fresh water lakes, and we never raced in the St. Mary's "Blessing of the Fleet" ceremony again. St. Mary's is now one of our bigger Nuclear Sub bases though I  believe the Shrimp fleet still attempts to make a living even with the Sounds full of Deadly Submarine's and their Sonar. My how things change in 50 years. I imagine very few racers resort to aluminum Ice Trays to block spray from other boats drowning out the Carbs on there outboards nowadays.

Way to much info & Memories,

Walt Arnsdorff

Sorry. I usually attend Doug's fascinating lectures. We'll be out of town that weekend though.

Guys would love to attend but will be in the UK. Really pleased that you are promoting Donald Campbell and his amazing record breaking Bluebirds and wish Doug well with the book launch. Would be interested in purchasing a signed copy if this could be arranged. For more Bluebird stuff have a look at our facebook page Bluebird Supporters Club. Regards Dave
