SUMMARY:Pay N' Pak Announcement
DESCRIPTION:YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN US AS ONE OF SEATTLE’S BIGGEST S
PORTS STARS FINDS A PERMANENT HOME!\r\nBefore the SEAHAWKS, SOUNDERS o
r MARINERS, the Seattle sports scene was dominated by Unlimited Hydrop
lane Racing. One of the region’s most successful hydroplanes was Dav
e Heerensperger’s 1973 PAY N PAK. This revolutionary boat was nickna
med “The Winged Wonder” because it was the first boat to use a hor
izontal stabilizer. The PAK set over a dozen World Records and won 16
races in 3 years while bringing home to Seattle 3 straight National Ch
ampionships. From 1973 to 1975, The PAK was one of the best known and
well loved sports stars in the Northwest. In 1976 Dave Heerensperger r
etired from Unlimited Hydroplane Racing and sold the PAK to Bill Munce
y, who ran it for one more year – winning 5 additional races and ano
ther National Championship. The boat was eventually retired and passed
through several hands before being bought and restored by local colle
ctor Dr. Kenneth Muscatel. Dave Heerensperger passed away in 2018, and
it looked like the Heerensperger family’s connection to the sport w
as over. This year, Dave’s son Joe Heerensperger and daughter Julie
Heerensperger Warren have teamed up with Dr. Muscatel to gift “The W
inged Wonder” PAY N PAK to the Kent-based Hydroplane & Raceboat Muse
um. The Hydroplane & Raceboat Museum is a 501-c3 not for profit whose
mission is to “promote lifelong learning while honoring, celebrating
and preserving the history of Hydroplane Racing”.\r\nYOU ARE INVITE
