Miss Tri-Cities Question

By Fred Farley - Unlimited Hydroplane Historian

QUESTION:

Fred, I was wondering how many MISS TRI-CITIES boats there have been. Can you tell me the U-numbers of all the boats? - Aaron Stephens; Tri-Cities, WA

ANSWER:

Okay, here goes...

The first MISS TRI-CITIES from 1959 was U-26 ( the former SCOOTER TOO). This was the first MISS TRI-CITIES to be displayed atop the pylon in Columbia Park, beginning in 1969.

The second MISS TRI-CITIES from 1966 was U-37 (the former SLO-MO-SHUN V).

The third MISS TRI-CITIES from 1977 was U-4 (the future CHARLIE'S GIRL). It re-appeared in 1978 as MISS TRI-CITIES/MARK & PAK, also as U-4.

The fourth MISS TRI-CITIES from 1989 was U-88 ( the former GOLDEN THUNDER, an ATA hull).

Then there was the MS. TRI-CITIES of 1999 that was U-15 (the former PICO AMERICAN DREAM).

The current MISS TRI-CITIES that rests atop the pylon never raced as MISS TRI-CITIES. This was another of the Jerry Schoenith ATA hulls from the short-lived Automotive Thunderboat Association tour. It never participated in an Unlimited race and ran as MISS QUAD-CITIES and TED NUGENT FREE-FOR-ALL during its brief career.
