Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum

We're racing through history!

I was sitting here at my computer pulling together all the receipts and other things I'll need to prepare my tax return for 2011 (including the names and ages of my 14 dependents and the address of my personally-funded leprosy clinic in Key West) when it occurred to me to remind those of you who itemize your taxes that the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum is a non-proft organization as defined by the IRS as a 501(C)(3) entity. In simple terms you may be able to claim a deduction for your dues and even material donations given to the museum..

Here's a bit more information... http://www.ehow.com/facts_5261374_donation-tax-deduction.html

Museum dues are quite reasonable and provide us with a lot of information, and entertainment available nowhere else. Even though you may not live in the Pacific NW, your donations make you as important as any volunteer or docent who spend hours at the Museum. Did you know we have at least one member that flies out here from the east coast whenever he can do so, just to help work on the 'Blaster for a few days? You can bet he's a full member of that crew. He is also a contributor and full member of the museum. Oddly enough, he doesn't seem to hang out on this site.

I believe there are a a lot of people on this Website/Forum who obviously, love the Thunderboats. Nothing is charged to any of you simply being a member of the website. I think I speak for the Museum when I tell you that your participation, your posts and your remembrances of the Golden Era of Unlimited Hydroplanes help make this great resource a wonderful place for all of us.

But, if I may, suggest that those of you who are not yet "full" members of the museum to join? I am sure it's enjoyable for you to visit the website, relive memories, and watch the progress being made on the restorations, like the "Blue Blaster". Dues and contributions to the museum are largely used to fund these projects though. Wouldn't you feel proud to know that you personally helped restore one of these iconic race boats instead of simply looking on vicariously? Oh, and don't forget the member discount on the many wonderful things available in the museum gift store.

As usual, I've rambled on, and David and Bob Senior might not like what I'm doing but like many others, I have a passion for this sport and its unique history. The museum is for me and for you and everyone  who loves these boats. Touchstones to our younger years if you will.

Please consider becoming a full member and a bone-fide contributor to the work managed so well by David and his staff. Buy some books or T-shirts or videos for your friends while you're at it, but year end is rushing at us quickly.

Take advantage of a nice tax deduction in the process. I think you'll feel good about being "part of the crew" on these boats.

Now, where did I put that address in Key West?

Thanks for indulging me...
