Jon Osterberg replied to Tim Matyn's discussion what needs to be done to increase the fan base and popularity of unlimited hydroplane racing
"Philip, that's some aggressive thinking ... and great thought leadership. What it would require is a governing body, and (obviously) corporate sponsorship. But you're right -- rather than think nationally, it should be a regional affair…"

Jon Osterberg replied to Tim Matyn's discussion what needs to be done to increase the fan base and popularity of unlimited hydroplane racing
"Tony, you're preaching to the choir, dude! I'd love to see the vintage boats tied in with more H1 sites, especially Detroit, Madison, and San Diego. As for what went "sideways" as you say, all I can speak to is what happened…"

"Tony, nice to see your name and thoughts. Yours is a refreshing perspective re: embracing the air shows. I'm one of the whiners who yearns for the hydros to again be promoted as the top attraction in Seattle. But maybe there are economies of…"

"This Bardahl (1958 hull) made me a hydro fan. My dad lived two blocks east of the Bardahl plant on N.W. 52nd, and this is the hull that first excited me as a 4-year-old."

I agree with you Jon Opening the Mount Baker pits would make for an awsome venue for the vintage boats as well as how we older folks have access to the younger base that Seafair is trying to target. We can bring the younger folks down to the lake to see and hear the boats. Since the "air show" really is a fly by since Seafair doesn't provide access for close-up viewing it is not an air show.
