Doug Ford replied to Steve Wilkie's discussion Vertical fin on Shanty II...Kelly and I have owned the Shanty II for 15 years now. We "saved it" from a man that was going to scrap-it (see Chapter 8 in "What Were They Thinking?" by: Doug Ford).
We have finally met all of you who understand and appreciate its' place in Hydro history and can't thank all of you who have helped us!
Our intention is to take the boat to shows, and such, introduce people to the history of hydroplanes and promote the restoration of the U-55 Gale V (3) through donations.
