This is a comprehensive history of modifications to the Rolls Royce / Packard Merlin for boat racing and airplane racing. The topics include internal modifications such as quill shafts, crankshafts and cam shafts. Also included is a discussion of Nitrous Oxide, ADI (Water methanol) injection and Nitro Methane. There will be actual Merlin parts to examine. The presentation will be technical in nature, but also will be of interest to the average Vintage Unlimited fan. The presentation will include a power point presentation.

If everything goes right i should be there, maybe I might drag somebody along with me!
It would be an honor to attend this event. Not only was the Rolls Royce Merlin engine a pivital part of allied technology in WWII,It was adapted well to Unlimited hydroplane racing. There are websites you can learn more about this amazing powerplant.
To hear this lecture by the one who was there Dixon Smith is a great oppotunity and should be a wonderful time. I am really looking forward to this and hopefully some of this knowledge will help us get some of the other Merlins the Museum has back up and running.
RSVP for Dixon Smith's Racing Development of the Merlin from the 1950's thru the 1990's to add comments!
